P. Brewster Barn
Heritage Meets Nature: A Timeless Coastal Retreat
Located in the coastal town of Brewster, Cape Cod, this project transforms a 2,800-square-foot dilapidated barn into a timeless heirloom home. Surrounded by mature greenery and overlooking a serene stream, the property is a perfect retreat for its birdwatching enthusiast Owner. The design merges historic charm with modern conveniences and sustainability, blending rustic beauty with contemporary comfort.
The exterior incorporates reclaimed wood, natural stone, and weathered materials, reflecting the region's coastal heritage. Inside, family heirlooms and generational collections add layers of history and personal significance.
A circular staircase connects the ground-floor and upper-level spaces, allowing for multi-generational living. Large, strategically placed windows bring in natural light and offer ideal views for birdwatching, maintaining a strong connection to nature.
A new outdoor observation deck extends into the forest, using the tree canopy for natural shading and enhancing the indoor-outdoor flow. Inside, exposed beams and vaulted ceilings preserve the barn’s open feel, while rustic and modern finishes create warmth. Cozy nooks, observation spaces, and porches invite the family to enjoy the beauty of the surroundings year-round.
This project revives the barn’s legacy, transforming it into an enduring family heirloom in perfect harmony with the coastal environment and the Owner’s passion for birdwatching.
